Order numbered 783, awarded on August 3, 1956.

Original name: Орден Георги Димитров; was the highest decoration of the People's Republic of Bulgaria.
It was established on June 17, 1950 and awarded to Bulgarians and foreigners for outstanding services to the defense and freedom of Bulgaria or for their contribution to socialism.
The decoration was the Bulgarian equivalent of the Order of Lenin, the general model of which it followed.
The award was named in honor of Georgi Dimitrov, a prominent Bulgarian communist from the interwar and immediate post-war period
